Mcommerce: The New Keyword for Business

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

Imagine yourself at home. What are you holding?

Most likely, your phone is in your hand, your tablet is in your lap, or your computer is humming atop your desk.

Such is the case for so many millions in this day & age that it isn’t surprising that the amount of shopping done through our beloved WiFi gadgets accounts for some enterprises entire cashflow.

The fashion boutique, the cosmetics shop, the grocery store, and nearly every shopping choice imaginable is now in your palm and businesses are scrambling to capitalize on the emerging mobile commerce market.  An executive from clothing retailer, Charming Charlie, has already cited that 40% of traffic is coming from tablet devices alone.

Ecommerce models, pioneered by the likes of Amazon, are portable and customizable for whatever business you’re in, but implementing a strategic platform to drive value for your customers is not a task to undertake on your own.

Socializing with your target markets is an absolute must in today’s global environment where building an authentic following requires asking, listening, acting & reacting to what people truly want.

Twitter-Homepage1

Twitter makes most of its revenue from advertising, but it’s looking to branch out into e-commerce according to recent reports. (Is someone trying to break away from Google+ perhaps?).

At the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen this week, Dick Costolo, Twitter’s CEO, assured that Twitter was “growing faster than…ever.” Its advertising has definitely increased from low hundreds in 2010 to seven times that much this year.

E-commerce is something that they might be considering in the future. They once tried daily deals with Google and the San Diego Chargers, who made money selling discounted codes to conferences and games through Twitter. However, the deals were shortlived.  Only time will tell if they come back again. It would provide a more organic ways for businesses to promote their products/services allowing users to get a deal (which is what they are looking for in social media) without having to leave the social media site.

Real-Time Barter Market Threatens Craigslist

Zaarly

Want to buy and sell on the go? With the Zaarly iPhone app, buyers are connected to sellers through the web or a mobile phone. Zaarly hopes to create a real-time, action-oriented market place. It will remind people of Craigslist with its people generated requests and emphasis on localness.

It works by people posting what they want and the price they are willing to pay for it, and other people and businesses nearby who have what you are looking for receive your request. They will connect with the ones who requested the product and bargaining can begin through private messages until a price is agreed upon.

Although Zaarly is in its infancy, it will be interesting to see how the bartering aspect is received.
